The Wilderness

                I shall walk through lands
                of morning mists and
                lovers locked in sleep
                to wring some answer
                from the wilderness.
                The watchman of the city
                will be at large.
                I shall bow down
                before his beauty
                and beg deliverance
                from his prison.
                He will turn from me
                to reclaim his citadel
and leave me locked in loneliness.

                There will be no liberation,
                for our Lord and Saviour
                Jesus Christ
                banished love from this world
and pledged it to the other.

                Adonai, Adonai,
                Adonis, Adonis,
                release me from this thralldom
                into which you cast me
before I was armed against you
                and let me go
                to found a kingdom
                of my own.
